Black Religious Scholars Group announces the twenty-sixth annual consultation. The theme for this year’s BRSG annual meeting is entitled “Making It Plain: Building a New Way Forward.” We have arranged an enlightening and engaging program. We have invited New Testament Scholar and political commentator Rev. Dr. Obery Hendricks, Visiting Scholar at Columbia University in the Department of Religion and the Department of African American and African Diasporic Studies, and distinguished pastor and scholar, Rev Dr. Leslie Callahan, senior pastor of the St. Paul’s Baptist Church, to be our honorees this year in recognition of their significant contributions and scholarship in the church, academy, politics and world of faith. The mission of the program is to develop resources and opportunities for students, scholars, clergy, and community members to envision and create a more just and sustainable world for all. We will convene a “Council of Griots” comprised of distinguished honorees and panelists who will provide wisdom and remarks for the community at large.

Anantanand Rambachan’s Pathways to Hindu-Christian Dialogue (Fortress Press, 2022) sets forth a cogent understanding of the dynamics and pitfalls of dialogue, played out over seven chapters. Four are thematic — “Starting Points,” “Theological Resources and Challenges,” “Hindu Nationalism and Dialogue,” and “Caste.” Three others pose open-ended questions that today demand direct and honest answers: “What Can Hindus Learn from Christianity?” “What Can Christians Learn from Hinduism?” And, in today’s fraught political and theological context, the very basic “Why Hindu-Christian Dialogue?” Such themes and questions are rarely posed with such acute attentiveness to the times in which we live; and they are rarely answered so eloquently by someone as thoughtful, experienced and honest as Rambachan. This wise volume also offers an unpresuming and moving witness to the author’s lifetime of learning and reflection, from his beginnings in Trinidad, as a student in the UK, as a professor for 40 years at St. Olaf College, and as a valued leader in large and small dialogues across the United States, India and the wider world.

"At Interfaith America, we’re building communities of practice committed to unlocking the positive potential of religion in health-related settings. From undergraduate and graduate health professions programs to health-focused faith-based organizations to health system and public health leaders, we’re inspiring, equipping, and connecting those who are poised to bridge the gap between religion and health to promote individual and community flourishing.

Interfaith America seeks to convene faculty involved in religious studies and are interested in working alongside health fields on their campuses to integrate religious diversity curriculum into pre-health programs. We will hear from faculty from select institutions who have developed successful models and how they can be implemented at your campus."
